A Web of Air, by Philip Reeve, is an exciting, imaginative and twisting story about 2 young engineers, Fever Crumb and Arlo Thursday. Fever is a trained engineer from London who is working on a land barge and Arlo is a clever young man that, for part of his life, grew up with strange birds on a Thursday Island. When they try to make an aeroplane, something no one has done since the ancients, powerful enemies stalk them, either to discover their technology or to stop them learning the secrets of flight. The book is a prequel to the Mortal Engines series and I would thoroughly recommend it to any one between 10-14 years old. A wonderful book.
