Review of 15 Days without a Head by Dave Cousins

Review of 15 Days without a Head by Dave Cousins

‘15 Days Without a Head’ is the kind of book I pick up and think ‘this looks silly’ simply because of the title. However the book is actually very good.

It features a fifteen-year-old boy called Laurence who writes from his perspective. One day, his mum disappears and he is forced to look after his six-year-old brother, Jay, who likes to act like a dog – by barking and biting people.  Laurence needs to find his Mum, before the social workers learn that the boys are on their own. To make sure that Laurence and his brother don’t go into care, Laurence has to avoid teachers, neighbours, and friends, with the help of a potential girlfriend.

I really enjoyed the book, I could relate to it, it was written well and it was a good story. This book isn’t the kind of book that has you on the edge of your seat or on the verge of tears. No, it’s a book that you can just read lightly and enjoy.
